Solar ‘new king’ in renewable energy

By Dave Conway

Here’s an eye-catcher of a quote: “Solar projects now offer some of the lowest-cost electricity ever seen.”

The finding can be found in a new report by the influential IEA (International Energy Association) and makes a compelling case for continued growth in solar technology and other renewable energy sources. At Green Alternatives, we look forward to working with our new and returning customers to design a solar installation that is best suited for their home, business or agricultural operation and are excited to be at the forefront of this exciting industry.

Below are some of the report’s other main findings:

  • Affordability. Solar power is consistently cheaper than new coal or gas-reliant power plants.
  • Rapidly expanding. The affordable renewable energy source is expected to be the fastest-growing in the coming years, with solar power anticipated to nearly triple from today’s levels through 2030.
  • Record-setting. Solar is expected to set new records for deployment each year after 2022, with wind power a close second!

With explosive growth expected in the field, solar panels also are proving to last longer than initially anticipated. An average 25-year lifespan is excellent news when you consider system payback and the ROI on your investment. However, that longevity could also be a reason to choose a ground-mounted system versus a roof installation for many reasons. (For starters: Fewer size limitations and greater ability to point the panels toward the sun to maximize electricity generation.)
