Congrats! You’ve made the awesome decision to go solar! You’ve carefully chosen a proven solar partner, your panels are installed by an expert team, and you’re enjoying the benefits of solar energy…now what?
Like any good investment, you want your system to be long lasting and yield the best results for your home or building. So how do you make your investment worthwhile? Green Alternatives is here to tell you when and how to care for your systems so they keep performing at the highest level for years to come.
Don’t worry, we won’t have you climbing up to the roof each morning…solar panels generally need very little maintenance. Still, you should monitor them, make sure they’re clean, and consider annual inspections.
Here’s a list of things you can do to make sure your systems continue to operate smoothly:
Cleaning
Solar panels should be cleaned about 2 times per year. In Indiana, spring pollen and harvest dust tend to be the biggest issues, but it’s important to also look out for animal nests and debris following storms. When present, these things need to be cleaned out of your solar panels by you or by a professional. Only do this in the cooler parts of the day. Find basic steps on how to clean solar panels here.
Additional Maintenance
It’s important to check that your solar panels remain in good condition. When cleaning your panels, you should also check the clamps on the racking to make sure nothing has loosened over time and ensure that the conduits are in good condition. If problems arise, you should schedule maintenance with a professional. You can contact the Green Alternatives team through the Request Service tab on our website.
Monitoring
To make sure your systems are running smoothly, you should occasionally check the inverter through monitoring apps or with physical lighting on the inverter.
Annual Inspections
In general, it’s a good idea to have your system inspected annually by a professional. To make this simple, Green Alternatives offers service contracts that include the maintenance and inspections of your systems after installation.
Solar energy systems are an investment, and one worth taking care of. Following these steps should help to keep your system in great condition.
We’re thrilled that you’ve gone solar! And if you haven’t…we hope you’ll consider the benefits of doing so this year!
